"POLICE ARE investigating an allegation that a Fife doctor misused access to electronic medical records. The alleged breach of NHS data protection was brought to the attention of Fife Constabulary by NHS Fife in October. A spokesman for the health service said, “During early October 2008, NHS Fife notified Fife Constabulary that a doctor employed by the organisation may have misused access to NHS electronic records. No patient data was lost and patient care has not been compromised. Senior clinicians within NHS Fife have notified patients whose records may have been accessed.” He added that the service would be making no further comment until any possible employee conduct issues had been resolved. The doctor involved is not currently practising."
It is sad when people in positions of responsibility abuse the trust that has been placed in them. Even more so when they breach people's privacy in the process. The fact that it happened in Fife should worry Fifers even more.
