In Memoriam.

It is a sensitive issue, but it is also one that Fife Council doesn't seem to be handling very well at the moment.

"A FIFE couple have threatened to exhume the bodies of their two young sons, rather than let the local council “desecrate” their graves. Zander and Patricia Donaldson say Fife Council have told them to remove memorials to their children from Bowhill Cemetery or they will be disposed of. The Methil couple’s baby son Lewis died in 1998, after he was born prematurely, then in 2006, 11-year-old Kieran died in a tragic accident at home. The couple are so upset by the council’s order they would rather the bodies were dug up and buried in their own garden than see the items destroyed."

Cemetries are public places which have to respect the rights of all of those using them, but Carnegie isn't sure that Fife Council are getting it right. Perhaps they should have some of their senior officials put their heads together and come up with a solution which doesn't cause so much needless pain to the bereaved?
